Hi,

I have a descent experience in Java/J2EE ( Core Java,JSP,Struts,Hibernate ) of about 2.5 yrs in [company name removed] and then an year in own company so a total of 3.5 years
I am looking for career options either in Java or may be android. I know basics in android , but really dont have any clue as to how to proceed for Android Jobs, ppl suggesting me
better go for android if you like app coding, as android has more growth.

Please pour in your comments/suggestions.

Oops....OK my appologies.
I am new to this forum.

Few of the postings I saw require experience in android with Java Background.

Well, that tells you that there's not much demand in your area for that right now. That doesn't mean that there won't be in the future, or that that's not a directions you should study if it interests you.

You really shouldn't ever be thinking of learning a new technology as a "transition in career". Languages and environments are things you should be constantly adding to your toolbox in your career as a software developer, not a "java developer" or an "android developer". Widen your scope.

I think currently there is a HUGE demand in Indian market for Android. I get 5times more emails for Android experience than any other skillset.

@Kr Manish Chand - My point is how to switch to this field so that I get due advantage of my Java exposure and at the same time learn /work on android?

Well Don, as Bear said, Studying could be one method - seriously.
Have a bit of understanding about android & its apis (fairly easy and well documented)
and play around with the examples/projects.
For your question specifically : You can search for and contribute to open source projects, though I haven't yet seen one so far and have just played around with examples at the moment.
I was seeing more of game development in jobs for android, which was not really my cup of tea, so I decided against such a switch presently.
Also there are quite a few cross-platform mobile web frameworks present (but not much are making headway into jobs as of now).
