Controlling spacing of labels in the axis of JFree Chart

I want to control (mainly decrease) the spacing of the scales in JFreeChart axis. The chart that is currently generating has been attached.
I actually need to decrease the width of this entire chart, but if I decrease the width, the width of the scale is not getting reduced. As a result, the entire axis is not displaying.

Please let me know if there is any API method available, also if any customized method can be written for this, please let me know.
