I am a computer programming student about to begin my "Advanced Java" class. This class will concentrate on Java EE and JDeveloper. How useful could this book be to someone in my situation?
The last good thing written in C was Franz Schubert's Symphony Number 9. -- Erwin Dieterich
While Spring in Action is very useful, it's not a JEE book so I imagine it would be of limited value in your class specifically. It's one of those "real world" things that is good to know about.
Yeah, if your class is focused on to-the-spec JEE, you probably won't learn much from Spring in Action. That said, Spring does work with several of the JEE specifications, so you might learn some stuff about JEE, albeit indirectly. If I were you, I'd go through your class...get to know JEE fairly well, then step back and learn Spring and then compare/contrast. Not only will you be all that more knowledgeable on both subjects, it'll be fun to see how your opinion forms around each. :-)
