Hi people.

I have just handed my boss an application for OCPJP (formerly SCJP 310-065) certification. I've wanted this qualification for a long long time and I'm not backing down anymore!! I know I can learn the course material myself and pay and sit the exam under my own steam but I though sod it, I'll try and get my company to pay for it. I applied for the 5 day course promoted on the Oracle website (5 days instructor led), here's what my boss came back with:

"5 days is too long to be doing this intensive technical stuff for, can you find somewhere that breaks down the modules and covers them say 2 days at a time"

"Is version 7 of the certification due out soon"

"is there alternative cheaper training available"

I'm really want the official Oracle training and not some cheaper alternative (not that i can find any other courses that are much cheaper anyway) so can you guys give me some ammo that I can go back to him with that will win him over.....

Thanks very much folks!

Well look like your boss or company can't afford the training, time, money, and the cert for you so,
you better cut it short. The price tag for 5 days training is pretty stiff which is US$ 2,485**.

If you're new to Java I recommended you take it, if you want to master java and pass the exam I
recommend go with Whizlabs package, their way cheaper and to the point of acquire the certification.

I've tried one hour trial Webinar and I found these guys are really good. If you want learn from the best
and to the point of getting the cert then Whizlabs to go. Register and try it yourself and see if that benefit you.
I haven't try Oracle yet, but I think they cover more materials about Java and the basic.

I'm not sure what cert you trying to acquired, but only course that I see available on Oracle site is
Associate Certification Value Package. For the OCPJP definitely it's not worth to take the training,
you don't want to waste money and time on something that ain't help you on the cert.

I think Kathy & Bert book is good enough, and if you want to guaranteed passing the exam and learn
from the best then go with Whizlabs.

Knowledge is matter so, even after you acquired the cert don't stop enhance your knowledge and step
on the next level.

Whizlabs course info: http://www.whizlabs.com/scjp/training.html

Hope it help...

If you want to go on and to the developer certification later then you will need to have done one of the Oracle courses to fulfil the entry requirements (Details). Something to consider if you are spending money on courses.
