Guys,

I was thinking of giving this certification from Oracle. But I guess since this October, it is mandatory to take a course which costs about 2000 odd dollars. What the heck is all this? What is happening to Sun certifications? I'm terribly dissapointed.

I agree, the course requirement will drastically reduce the number of people able to take this certification which is a shame. On the other hand, because of it I took and succesfully passed this recently which I may not have done otherwise. I think there's still time to do it, but with the time it's taking them to grade it may be a one-shot attempt....

As an indication I did part 1 after 3 weeks study (1 hour per day on the train and the weekend before the exam)
part 2 took me about 20-30 hours
part 3 was simple after part 2 and most of the questions were expected

Yes, you are right. I do not want to hurry myself and give the certification before October. I was planning for it around November and now it seems impossible without shelling out those extra dollars for the mandatory course.

By the way, if I give my SCEA part 1 and do not take up my assignments, is my SCEA part 1 certification still valid?

I think the pass for part 1 counts for when you want to take parts 2 and 3 but it's not a certification until you have completed everything, you don't get a certificate or anything

Thanks for the clarification. I do not see any point in certifying myself for SCEA unless someone sponsors.

I have closed this topic as we already have a topic for discussing Oracle's new requirements.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
