From the message- You are trying to install a 64bit JDK on a 32bit system. Try to download the 32bit JDK installation.

Hi

Not that i am an expert or anything but i had the same problem:

"jdk-7-windows-x64.exe is not a valid Win32 application" - and I am running windows 7 64-bit

I was able to install jdk-6u27-windows-x64.exe and it is working ok (well, i was able to compile a java file)

Best regards

Patrick

Welcome to the Ranch

Presumably you have a 64-bit machine? Odd that you should get that error message; maybe it was attempting installation into a Win32 or similar folder. Don't know any more about it.

Thanks for the welcome

Not sure what the problem is, but JDK 6 suits me fine as all i was doing was compiling a (first) java file - happy days

I think you are going to have to resort to desperate measures, like “if it aint't broke, don't fix it.”

Perhaps the download wasn't complete. I had quite some problems downloading the Java 7 documentation too, with it aborting near the end each time.

Sometimes virus infections cause this problem..

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
