Hey, there is a new Spanish speaking girl in the office. Now I speak Spanish, she start to work on support, so I am helping her out a little. I do not fancy her. Not at áll I fear. Now she keeps on writing me mails with things like 'Hola guapo'. She is from Latin America. I kind of hope this is cultural, and she is not interested in me, but girls from Latin America say this all the time....right??

Are you complaining? Does she know you know Spanish? Is she above you in the reporting chain?
If nothing else you can draw inspiration from

I can live for two months on a good compliment.

No, no. Not complaining yet.
Yes I am teaching her about our software in Spanish. So she certainly knows I know Spanish. We are talking in Spanish to each other.
No she is not above me.
Women above me in the reporting chain are .... kinda old actually!!!

I think she is just happy somebody can speak to her in her own tongue at the first difficult weeks when starting a new job!

Well, imagine that you'd be in her shoes. She is in a foreign country, on a brand new job. Maybe she doesn't know a lot of people in her new surroundings yet. English is not her native language and she doesn't speak Dutch (presumably?). Then there's someone in the company that she can speak her native language with. Ofcourse it isn't strange that she likes to talk to you then!

Yes, also support is understaffed for the holiday period! So it is just her way to express her thanks, right. I thought it was cool too, since I finally had some use of the little Spanish I know. Unfortunately my computer language skills don't impress people!

Does she know Father Christmas? (He comes from Spain, if I recall.)

You mean Saint Nicolas! Actually he comes from Mira in Turkey, and Father Christmas comes from Finland. (After he got the rheumatics in the North Pole he moved south for the warm weather.)

She knows all the saints, she is a good Catholic!

Sinterklaas is the same as Saint Nicolas! Who Santa Claus is, always wonders me. Is he father Christmas, or is he also Saint Nicolas?? He sounds like Saint Nicolas, though he behaves like father Christmas...

And what about the Easter Bunny, why does not he give presents?

I think she must be pretty, otherwise you wouldn't care about it...

No, sorry, she is not! Totally not!! Sorry, I think one should not judge people for their exterior, and I am also not saying I am pretty, far from it, but no, no, no, no! And furthermore I don't want to get socially too deep involved with colleagues anyway.
