Difference between Tomcat_Home and Catalina_Home Environment Variable  RSS feed

I have set Catalina_Home to start and stop the tomcat server from any directory.
In Head First Servlets and Jsp they have mentioned to set the TOMCAT_HOME env var.
I tried googling but didn't get proper answer.

Please help me out.
