Hi all,

I am very, very new to JSP and XML and I have been assigned a task at work to create a solution for a revamped website.

Basically, we currently have a series of JSP pages that are called up by basic XML content. (example: http://www.fiduciarytrust.ca/ca/ftcc/en/jsp_cm/library/main.jsp)

Currently each article (JSP page) is assigned to one category; however, the new website there has to be the option to apply the article to more than one category/sub-category.

With the new library of JSP pages, I have to somehow assign instructions in the XML to place a single JSP page in up to three categories.

Any idea what is a solution to this? Based on my brief research and little knowledge do I need some sort of parsing software? Is JSON a suitable solution?

Even a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would start by learning how the existing system works. So there's this XML. And somehow an XML "calls up" a JSP. And it appears that somewhere in that XML there is something which assigns a JSP to a category. Start by reviewing existing XML documents and asking how the document assigns a JSP to a category, how it causes the JSP to be send (or whether it does), and so on.

Once you know what's going on, the next step is to figure out how to change that. But you can't do the second step before the first.

Thanks for the reply!

I checked and the current web page has each section (categories and drop downs) in its own xml page.

The articles are labeled with:

<category id="1.1.1">
<item id="3.1.21">
<title>Passing on the Family Cottage Options</title>
<link>/ca/ftcc/en/jsp_cm/library/2008_3_5_family_cottage.jsp</link>
<desc></desc>
<owner>Elaine V. Wilson</owner>
<season>Summer</season>
<year>2008</year>
<type>HTML</type>
</item>
</category>

There are five separate xml pages and each page has multiple categories such as the one above (i.e., catgeory 1.1, category 1.2, category 1.3)

My question is how I can get one item to appear in more than one category/sub-category.

Any ideas?
