what are the areas i need to know for developing web base Remote desktop application?

hi,

i want to develop the web base remote desktop application in Java with remote sound feature if possible. can you suggest me the areas i need to learn about, where i can get the information for such type of application development. I also want to make my application a little different then the preexisting web base application of such category.
