Inputs to a REST webservice  RSS feed

I was always under this feeling that REST web service can accept only XML, JSON and TEXT as input. However I heard that REST webservices can also take other formats as inputs like files and documents. Is that possible or are these converted into xml's and json's.

There is absolutely no restriction on the kinds of resources a RESTful server can accept or return via HTTP.
