I am familiar with Java, and I use it a bit in my daily work. However I am not confident that I know even nearly enough to pass the certification exam. I have an associates degree in computer programming, and I have been working as a programmer for 11 years.

I want to have a thorough enough understanding of Java to pass the exam. What is the best way to achive this (books, classes, practice exams)?

I could go to my local community (junior) college and take their Object Oriented Programming class which uses Java. Would this be helpful? Interestingly, there is an education institute here in town that offers a 15-week Java class, and the class is "autorized" by Oracle as a Workforce Development Member. Defined by Oracle's website, Workforce Members are "Education institutions that deliver Oracle training as part of certificate and non-degree programs offered via Continuing Education. With this, Workforce Members will allow for easy and low-cost access to Oracle training in local communities across the country."

I spoke to the instructor, and he said that the objecticve of the class is not to prepare people for passing the exam, but I will have a solid understanding of Java if I complete through the course.

What is the best type of education and training needed to pass the certification exam?

Thank you in advance,
-Russ

There is no need of class. Just read the book mentioned by Hebert Coelho.
