Hi everyone, long time reader but this will be my first post.Today i passed the OCPJP with a score of 86%.First of all i want to thank Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates for their great book which helped me alot.Hereby i want to share some of my experiance and how i did study for the exam.
I started to studying for the exam 3.5 months ago.My level of Java was somewhat ok but not intermediate.I had Java Programming class at the Uni for 2 semesters and a Software Engineering class for 1 semester.I started with book chapter by chapter did Self Tests. The scores were
all awfull.(maybe except Operators). It was like 20-30%.I noted my mistakes and reworked the stuff i failed. Then after 10th chapter,i went back to start and take a quick look to the chapters. At that time My Self Test scores went up to like %50-%60 percent. Then again i worked all
the stuff which i failed again.Took notes about them. This phase took most of my time.Like 2.5 months. After that i started to do random questions.I copied most of the code from the questions and tried them even i answered them correctly.I played around
a bit.Changed this and that and so on.This also helped alot. Then i made the appointment for the exam before i made any mock or master exams!!!This was a hard decision but i wanted to push myself abit.I knew i wasnt ready for it so i had to learn alot.10 days before the exam i started
to make mock exams and masterexams.I wasnt scoring well on master exams and it was really discourging.Master exams were just really hard. They didnt give a good idea about the exam really.i was scoring around 50% on those. So i did some other ones on scjptest.com and was scoring over 80%.

About the exam:
The exam is really testing the stuff you have to know. Its easy if you preapred for it.The questions arent long and you dont have follow zillions of objects. It really tests that you know the language and doesnt try to trick you much.If you know it you do it.Period.If you score on scjptest.com over 70%
I beleive you can pass the realone. Some questions were so smilar.

Thanks again to Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates for this amaizing book which i used it to insanity. And it is still in 1 piece .

Hi

I am kushal and thinking about the scjp exams and I think you are the right person to guid me , so please help me with your suggestions.
I am in the last year of my three years gradutation course in computers.
I am interested in java and want to make career in java.
My Java teacher adviced me to take scjp exam in future.
When do you think I should be start preparing for the exam and how many hour should I be dedicating to the language from nowonwards.

actually I am still learning j2se so suggest me how I should be taking the coming chapters that could be helpful in future for the exams point of view.

Thankyou

Greetings
For the exam you gotta buy a good book first.I think the one i mentioned at my first post is the best one for this. There is no way to pass this exam without a proper preperation.Even you got classes at the uni.I think even most of the prof on the market cant pass this exam without a good prep.
The exam is really not hard if you do the right preperation for it.But your classes and current fundemental knowlage will be a very good starting point for the exam. The time period is up to you and how much time you can spare daily. At first weeks i was learning 2-3 hours per day.1 month ago it was like 4-5hours.
And last 15 days around 8 hours.Because i freshly graduated from the uni,i had time to go all in for it.I recommend you a smilar way to follow.Buy the book and start.First you gotto cover all stuff on the book.Try to code as much as you can. Some chapters can be really hard to understand but dont
give up.After covering all stuff start with the exams;find your failures and study them again. Its the same process over and over again, find what you did wrong, code it,try it,play with it.I hope this helps. If you have other questions, dont hesitate to ask.
