Hi,

I am currently learning Java with the last version of Java, what are, in your opinion some of the "Blockbuster" changes in Java 7 that would make me want to download it and get started right now?

edit: After reading through some of the java7SampleChapters i see this is a full tutorial book for Java beginners, I thought it was more for changes in Java7 ;) However i read on passage about using an IDE like eclipse can help and the reasons why.
I agree with this point!! and this is also a subject written about often here with mixed feelings. Some say only ever start with a text editor. Maybe you could elaborate a bit more on your thoughts about the IDE and learning Java?

Welcome to the Ranch and hope we can get some insight into Java 7 from you!

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your question and taking the time to download the sample chapters.

It's important to be able to compile and run Java programs using command lines, but I would definitely recommend an IDE as it does help and shorten development time. In my 15 years experience as programmer, I've only met one developer who refused to use an IDE and chose a text editor instead. Most companies I've worked with use Eclipse and this is what I use even though NetBeans is excellent too.

Best,
