I just finished learning spring and hibernate and I'm looking for job as a java developer. I'm thinking about learning ajax and ejb3 next, but which one should I learn first? Some of my friends tell me ejb is not so widely used unless you work for a really big company cause it costs a lot to even afford a server that runs ejb. Any advice?

That's not true. Popular Java EE application servers which support EJB, like JBoss and GlassFish are absolutely free.

I guess it is not about whether the EJB supporting servers cost more or not it is about the future scope. What I think is that EJB is a dying technology because Spring has taken its place but yes, there are many companies whose existing systems are still running on EJB and it will cost more if they migrate from EJB into some other technology. No company is willing to start a new project using EJB. What is running is old exisiting systems only.

I would suggest you for AJAX between these two.
