I've heard you can program games with HTML5, is it true?

There are really two definitions for HTML5. First, as an incremental update to the language HTML, which includes new elements and a couple of APIs associated with the video, audio and canvas elements. A second definition, which is how Eric and I tend to think of HTML5 encompasses the first, but also includes several JavaScript APIs that aren't associated with any specific element; things like GeoLocation, Web Workers and Web Storage.

To answer your question about games: yes, HTML5 can be used to implement games! Just google "HTML5 games" and you'll find a ton. There are even new JavaScript libraries popping up now that will help you build games, libraries that make graphics easier and even provide basic physics engines.
