I have some inputText elements on a page that work fine until I set autocomplete="off" in their attributes. If I do that they no longer have their local values updated. Is this some kind of side effect?

Here is the behavior I'm seeing. If a form doesn't pass validation in Firefox and the user presses the back button of their browser, then the form displays the old value of the input element. In Internet Explorer the same situation produces the opposite result; the form displays the new value that failed validation.

Which one of these behaviors is correct?
