I'm curious to find out how we can set environment variables in the Sun Webserver 7. As an example, if I had an application in Tomcat, I would be able to set these variables in the abc.xml configuration file under /conf/Catalina/localhost/. In the file I would have a variable for the application set as . I have looked through the documentation of the webserver but have not found anything relevant. The closest thing I came across was a way to set some variables which could only be used by the obj.conf file or something.

The reason I need this is because I'm trying to store my overall environment specific data in the database but need a value external to the application ideally (so as to preserve a single build concept) that would identify the application uniquely if it has multiple instances where each instance's properties might differ.

Thanks for any advice.
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
