What is the best way to keep user session id or authentication data

May i know what is the best way to keep user session id to validate user login and usage is valid.
Cookie , session or any other else ?

Often stored as a cookie.
I highly encourage you to look at a framework such as Apache Shiro or Spring Security to manage authentication.
