html:select with multiple = true????

hi ...
I want to have multiple selection but when i do this by keeping "multiple = true"


then... it is loosing its dropdown nature completely, and it is never like dropdown select at all.....
can any help me. how to do ... multiple selection.. and

showing one default value when page is diplayed.
