You'd upload the new apk file in your Android Market account, just like you did with the initial version. As soon as you click "Publish", the new version will be availble instead of the old one.

If the user runs the Android Market app, he'll see all of his apps listed that have updates available. Have you never used the Market app to update apps that you downloaded?

Yes i do there are 2 types of updates, one which requires a manual update and another a automatic one, Does the automated update use C2DM to push notifications??

There's a checkbox in the Market app for each application that determines whether it gets updated automatically or not.

As far as I remember it decided by the user mostly. You can set your option in Market Application.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
