Hello,

Newbie question. I passed OCJA exam a couple of days ago and am looking to do OCJP now. After browsing the forum a bit, it seems the SCJP book, SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Study Guide: Exam 310-065 by Katherine Sierra, Bert Bates is still being recommended as a study guide for this exam.

Are SCJP and OCJP essentially the same exams but simply re-branded?

I just want to ensure that I use the correct study materials for preparation purposes. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you
Harinder

When the certifying authority was Sun Microsystems, it was SCJP
Now that the certifying authority is Oracle Corporation, it is OCPJP
The fundamentals of Java remain the same though new features do get added with newer versions. IMHO, Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates book is still the best in the market for OCPJP.
If there is no urgency, you might want to get certified in OCPJP 7. The exam in the version 7 is not available right away but should be i guess in a few months. The Beta exam for OCPJP 7 just got over in early January. In the meanwhile, you can prepare for the exam. Just my twopence !!! All the best !

Thanks for the response. I think I will stick to Java 6 for now as that is what we are using at work currently. It would be fairly straight forward to upgrade to Java 7 at a future date if the need arises. I will be buying the book today and will also start studying this weekend.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
