Liferay is a rather specialized software - there may well not be any free books available. "Liferay in Action" comes to mind, of which a PDF version may be available from its publisher.

"Liferay in action" is mentioned on the liferay website, but the pioneer in writing Liferay books and has many books on the topic is Jonas X Yuan.

If you can't buy any of the books, I suggest browsing the liferay forum and wiki.
