Hi Zak, Anne,
With HTML5, CSS3, and javascript libraries such as jquery now making it very possible to a rich web layer what do you see as the future of web frameworks such as:
1. Struts
2. JSF
3. Spring MVC

Do we even need them?

Does your book cover this question?

Thanks.

No. This is a book on client side technology so it doesn't cover Java web frameworks.

I can't imagine why HTML 5 would reduce the need for structuring server side code.

It really really depends on many factors. You can write a rich client, but if you want dynamic data from say a database, there still has to be that serverside communications. But that can come in many forms, could be Nodejs with Javascript on the serverside. It could be Spring MVC REST Services on the serverside, like the application I am writing.

The question will also be based on how well the JSP/Servlet spec adapts, or other Web Frameworks work, like the Play Framework.
