java version "1.5.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build pap32devifx-20071025a (SR6b))
IBM J9 VM (build 2.3, J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3 AIX ppc-32 j9vmap3223-20071007 (JIT enabled)
J9VM - 20071004_14218_bHdSMR
JIT - 20070820_1846ifx1_r8
GC - 200708_10)
JCL - 20071025

Are these two versions equivalent although some of the dates are different. I only understand java version "1.5.0". Can someone explain about J9VM, JIT GC and GCL. Thanks,

IBM J9

JIT: Just In Time Compilation

JCL : Job Control Language: Its a scripting language used on IBM mainframe O.S

There is update on JRE 2 build which you can see by the date.

I am not sure about GC. just use the latest build as it will have updated packages.

Since they both mention version number 1.5.0, they should be functionally equivalent. Probably the top one is newer, since the dates are later. It might contain bug fixes or fixes for security problems that aren't yet in the bottom one.
