Hello all,
I am hoping some of you might provide input concerning typical Java/Android hourly contracting rates.
I've done some programming on and off over the years but have generally been primarily involved with aerospace engineering and the sciences until the last year. Since then, the combination of my interest in taking my career in an IT direction along with being caught up in big layoffs at my former employer has led me to focus on developing my programming skills, particularly in
Java and Android.
I now have my first published app available on the Android market, and am working on more. Recently, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with an outside, US-based company which is seeking help deploying software to the Android platform. The company has been pleased with the "trial" work I've done for them, and is now inquiring about the hourly rate I am seeking to do work for them as an independent contractor.
I have a bachelors degree in physics and a masters degree in aerospace engineering, but no formal computer science training. I would know how to value myself for aerospace engineering contracts, but I don't really have a feel for typical Java programming contracting rates - especially given my unusual background and experience level. Does anyone have a feel for typical contracting rate ranges in similar circumstances?
Thanks!
