Result Set not responding

I am attempting to merely initialize some values, however the result set is not responding to the .isBeforeFirst or .BeforeFirst statements though the CachedRowSet does. I have put in print statements just to mark the progress.

Code:

Output:
from page size --> class com.xxxx.pagingPanel > page=100
from cache set --> class com.xxxx.pagingPanel > true

-------------
*update: as I was restructuring my code and the result set was fed from another class, I failed to rename a local variable to the global result set that was being passed.

So does that mean isBeforeFirst() is returning false? Or it's hanging, or throwing an exception, or what?

I know that some of the JDBC stuff is driver-dependent. I haven't had much luck with any of the positional (isBeforeFirst, isAfterLast....) queries to a resultset against an Oracle DB for example. Particularly so with empty resultsets, but I'm guessing this resultset isn't empty?

And welcome to the ranch
