Hi,

I am running a Java based application on IPlanet 6.1 sp9.

The JVM startup options are:

-Xms2700m
-Xmx2700m
-server
-d64
-XX:+ScavengeBeforeFullGC
-XX:+DisableExplicitGC
-XX:+UseParallelGC
-XX:+UseLWPSynchronization
-XX:MaxPermSize=216m
-XX:NewSize=1258m
-XX:MaxNewSize=1258m
-XX:+PrintGCDetails
-XX:ParallelGCThreads=20
-XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90
-XX:+AggressiveOpts
-Dmx4j.log.prototype=mx4j.log.CommonsLogger -Dmx4j.log.priority=debug
-XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=64m
-Xbootclasspath:/usr/jdk/jdk1.5.0_22/jre/lib/rt.jar:/usr/jdk/jdk1.5.0_22/jre/lib/jsse.jar:/usr/j
dk/jdk1.5.0_22/jre/lib/jce.jar:

After several days of running, i find the CodeCache utilization goes on increasing and today there was an outage on the server with the following error message:

Exception in thread "CompilerThread0" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested 32756 bytes for ChunkPool::allocate. Out of swap space?

Can anyone advise on what may be causing this error to show up and what a possible fix could be which would not impact performance.

Regards,

Chetan

Simple answer is: No.

However, a Google of "thread "CompilerThread0" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" yielded me this page, which is 4 years old but indicates a remarkably similar error, and seems to suggest that it may have to do with a non-standard target JVM. There were several other hits as well. I suggest you read a few and see if any of them look promising.

Otherwise, you might want to try an iPlanet forum. Perhaps someone there has had similar problems.

Winston

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
