I have bought an Oracle voucher in december last year. Last week I ordered an OCP, JAva 6 SE exam(VUE), which should take place at the end of march. Yesterday I have found a post in this forum from Bert Bates that for non-certified people OCA certification is required(I am not cerified yet). So I checked this out on Oracle web page and same thing is written there. Since my exam is already ordered I called to Oracle university and asked them if it is really required for me to complete OCA first. The guy on the phone needed to confirm this, so he wrote me later an email that for OCP JAVA 6 SE certification i need only to pass 1Z0-851 exam. So now I am pretty confused about it and I am afraid that if I pass the exam I will not get the certificate. Since when is this change (OCA requirement for OCP) valid?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, the post only talks about OCP exam in general. It doesn't specifically mentions that if this requirement is for OCP all versions, or only for version 7 etc.

Where did you find this? Can you please post the link? As per my knowledge, there is no prerequisite for OCP version 6 (1Z0-851). The OCA mandate is for OCP version 7 (1Z1-804).

Here are the links : 1Z0-851 & 1Z1-804

Well, Oracle checks the eligibility of the candidate before the exam. If you are not eligible for a particular exam, system would not allow you to appear for the exam. So, don't worry about this

If you are preparing for 1Z0-851, as of now, you can directly appear for this exam and you don't have to first go for OCA.

I hope this helps.

I am also studying OCP books, assuming that I can get OCP without even trying for OCA. I am a bit confused as well. no where has explicitly mentioned that you won't be allowed to take part in OCP without having an OCA. or you may take part and even pass the exam, but Oracle won't give you the real certificate as you don't have OCA. that's still a mystery to me. I hope Oracle clarifies this.

On the official OCP JP 8 page, they have clearly specified the following:

Complete the above steps to earn the Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 8 Programmer Certification.

Step 1 in  "the above steps" is :

Prior Certification Requirements
Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 8 Programmer
