Basically I just want to make a project with the springmvc-archetype and run it.

Error 1: the automated generated pom.xml has one error in it : "Plugin execution not covered by lifecycle configuration: org.datanucleus:maven-datanucleus-plugin:2.1.0-release:enhance (execution: default, phase: process-classes)"

Error 2: when compiling and running on tomcat 6 it fails because of:

Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: myke.enriq.model.MyEntity

The actual error stack trace:

SEVERE: Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener
org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'org.springframework.web.servlet.mvc.annotation.DefaultAnnotationHandlerMapping#0': Initialization of bean failed; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: liviu/azi/bbbbbbbbb/model/MyEntity

IMPORTANT NOTE:
1) I do not change/add/delete anything from the pom.xml , or any other maven configuration
2) When I use other archetypes for other type of projects (spring ws , struts, etc) it works like a charm , no errors

Yeah, I try to stay away from some of the archetypes. Some are really old. I might use the basic one, but even that doesn't even create the src main, test, java, resources directory.

We'll I haven't used m2e, so I would just do it manually. Create a directory, inside that directory create a src/main/java and a src/main/resources and a src/test/java and a src/test/resources directory. Then create a pom.xml file at the root directory and copy and past from some other project, or tutorial out there and you have the start of a maven project.

I'd add the spring jars as <dependency> and other jars that I need. There are many examples out on the web to just copy and paste from.

Or use Roo and use just the create project command to get a maven structure started with a pom file with many dependencies already in it.

Roo is the way to go if you want all the dependencies. If you use STS you can use the spring template project. Alternatively just use the standary maven web-app project archetype and add in your spring dependencies as Mark already said.
