I'm running ubuntu 11.04 on a dedicated server.
I start apache /etc/init.d/apache2 start
I start tomcat /etc/init.d/tomcat start
I installed tomcat via the apt-get install tomcat7

I just installed tomcat 7, and when i go to mydomain.com:8080/manager I get this page.
-----------------------------------------------------------
HTTP Status 404 - /manager/

type Status report

message /manager/

description The requested resource (/manager/) is not available.

Apache Tomcat/7.0.21
----------------------------------------------------------

my tomcat directory has

Catalina context.xml policy.d tomcat-users.xml
catalina.properties logging.properties server.xml web.xml

the Catalina dir has a empty localhost dir inside

not sure if any of this is pertanent, just tring to give as much info a posible

Did you look at this: http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/manager-howto.html
Manager is disabled by default, for security reasons.

I must have a newer version or something because it shows directories I don't have like "conf" all i have is what i put above. every tutorial is the same, also not matching what I have they refer to things I don't have. maybe you can't install on ubuntu from pakg mngr. maybe by souce only.

I'll figure it out

thanks for the reply

UPDATE.
that was it, i have to remove the pachage install and intalll from the source. i knew something didn't look right. it works now. must be a bug in ubuntu packaging
