Persistence(JPA)

Hi,upto my knowledge For Persistence of data we go for JPA Api provided by sun then why we go for all the frameworks like hibernets,ibatis etc.. for persistence and is those frameworks use JPA api for their Persistence? if so why we go for those framework even though we JPA api ?

As far as I know SUN JPA API is just specification. These are the available implementation of the JPA.


• DataNucleus (formerly JPOX)
• EclipseLink (formerly Oracle TopLink)
JBoss Hibernate
• ObjectDB
• OpenJPA
• IBM, via its OpenJPA-based Feature Pack for OSGi Applications and JPA 2.0 for WebSphere Application Server
• Versant JPA (not relational, object database)

Yes, JPA is the specification for standardizing the Java persistence, various vendors implement it.
