iam triying JPA with tomcat's openJPA in that they specify all the pre software requirements like jdk,geronimo app server,eclipse ide,but they didnt mention about Derby DB eventhough they work for it(they provide username,driver etc of derby Db in persistence.xml).How the app going to work with no installation of Derby DB?Can anyone tell me plzz..

You don't have to use Derby for your application so they can't tell everyone they need to install it. You could point your persistence.xml to a JNDI name that defines a connection to MySQL or Oracle database for example.
If they use it embedded within the container for their own devious purposes then it's already bundled within the appserver and you don't need to worry about it.

Thanks for the answer armitage.Can you give me some source(like urls or books) of basic example JPA web app so that i can understand JPA easily..

There's nothing web-specific about OpenJPA or JPA. Basic examples can be found on the OpenJPA web site.
