Hello my name is sarvesh. i am new to this place. the prime reason that i have registered with this forum is, that i am willing to appear for the SCJP/OCJP certification exam. and i need some valuable tips from those who have appeared and fared well in this certification exam. i have already read the book, Java by Kathy Serra. But the problem is, that its been over a month i haven't been in touch since then. i don't have enough guidelines as to how to resume my SCJP preparation. Kindly help me. i am desperate to give the OCJP exam. Thank you in advance.

KB's study guide is the official guideline for the exam.
Make sure you understand the materials in the self-tests.
The real exam is similar to those self-tests.
Also, do the 2 exams from the exam simulator from KB's CD that comes with the book.

Then, try to work on KB's practice exam book. There are 4 exams. They are very difficult, even more difficult than the real exam. But it helps.

If you have something you don't understand, visit Java Ranch forum.
Or , read another SCJP study guide from Mughal and Rassumenssen. This study guide is a good supplement.

Good luck.

Thank you for helping me out. I never knew i would get a reply so early. But,what does KB stand for ? Also please help me clarify the following doubt -
As i have just started preparing for the SCJP /OCJP exam,i just wanted to ask one thing which i feel is very important is, that as i have decide to give the SCJP/OCJP certification exam the code of it is 1z0:851 but the book that i'm using for SCJP/OCJP exam has a code 310-065 on it. I wonder if i'm using the correct preparation book? I need to know the difference between this. Kindly help me. Thanks in advance.

But,what does KB stand for ?

KB refers the authors Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates (Bert is one of the moderators of this SCJP forum).

You can see the book review by choosing "Java Certification" in the Bunkhouse. We also have a SCJP-FAQ.

Thank you for the information. If you don't mind can you tell me what score did you get in your OCJP exam and how did you work out daily for this exam? I mean what is the exact procedure to be followed to get through this OCJP exam with a good score?
And one more thing, what is Rancher and Ranch Hand. You may be knowing this well as i guess you may have been in touch with this forum for a long time. Thanks in advance.
