I got a problem in deploy jforum, please help!

first of all, you did a great job!


But I've got a problem when I attempt to deploy it, I got a exception like this:

I use Tomcat 4.04, maybe it require a later version?
And my mysql version is 4.0.14, its driver is mm.mysql-2.0.14-bin.jar, I notice that the driver in jforum is newer than mine. Does this mind?

You have an older version of the JForum's source code..
The error at

net.jforum.ActionServletRequest.<init>(ActionServletRequest.java:236) 

was already fixed. It happens when you access without a context path ( just like in your case ).

You could get the latest version from CVS, which runs finer.

Anyway, I'll put a ZIP file with the source code of beta2 to download.

Now I see that the connection pool didn't started at all for you..

This problem may be username/password, or host not found..

Strange..

The error

java.sql.SQLException: Server connection failure during transaction.

generally shows up when the hostname / username / password are misconfigured in database.proporties. ( If I'm not wrong, a bad username / password will gave you another exception.. something like access denied or kinda... )..

The another exception, the "Array index out of bounds", in ActionServletRequest, was because the context path thing.. When I was coding JForum, I always used localhost:8080/forum to test, but when I tries to run at port 80, I saw that crapy exception exploding everything :P

I checked the releases, and this was fixed in beta2 release. You could confirm that by opening ActionServletRequest.java and searching for

The solution my friend as I have just found out after having the same problem, is that your webserver must be running on port 80, not 8080 like yours.

Hopefully that should solve the problem for you. It certainly did for me!

EDIT:
Or if that doesn't work, try creating a new admin user in MySQL and then using that user to connect to the db. That also seemed to work here to.

Though in a bizarre twist of fate, after having no trouble for 2 hours and leaving the machine to go and get a cup of coffee, I've returned to get a whole new error! I now get:

java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: c

Quite worring considering I didn't change the config at all! Any ideas!!!

Almost correct.. Indeed, now it is possible to have JForum running at port 80 or using a context path ( like :8080/myForum ).. Jacer's problem was because he used one of the first versions.

I "guess" beta3 doesn't have this bug.

Although I did have the appearance of the same problem with b3, the solution to which was to take my webserver off of port 9090 and put it on the common port 80. Although I did also create a new admin user for mysql and have thus far not had the time to backtrack to determine which was the solution.

A reminder, once again, to change one thing at a time! ;)

I replaced the 3.0beta version of Connector/J with 3.0.11stable, and the problem went away.
