Problem using tomcat

i have tomcat 5.5 and jdk 1.3 , after setting all the required env_var (ie) java_home, tomcat_home and catalyna_home iam unable to start the server........
it starts fine but exits immediatley.........cud any one help me out.....

Tomcat 5.5 requries J2SE 1.5 if I remember correctly ( at least 2.4 for sure )
