How does this "pipe" differs from "regular" connections?

when I set up connection to mysql in my java app I would use:

Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
dbConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/dbName?user=root&
password=MyP&socketFactory=com.mysql.jdbc.NamedPipeSocketFactory

usually MySQL uses tcp/ip connection with a port . This is easier for communication because everything goes thru the port, but it is slower. so if all your apps will be local in one phsycial machine, you can choose to use named pipes.

Well, then just change the key "database.connection.string" at WEB-INF/config/database/mysql/mysql.properties AND probably WEB-INF/config/jforum-custom.conf
