New messages icon problem

This morning when I went into the forums on our site there were 3 or 4 topics that had new messages and showed the new messages icon. After reading one of the topics and returning to the topic list all the new message icon reverted to the standard icon.

We are using the 2.1.5 version of JForum.

Any help with this would be appreciated!
