Hard to say. Check in the tomcat / jforum logs for some "EmailException".. sometimes there is a tiny property wronly configured

I have a running mail server and I can post mail and recieve mail through the mail server.

Mail from JForum does not even appear in the log it isn't even contacting the SMTP server. the mail server requires no authentication;

I have a problem with postfix refusing connections from localhost...

It is willing to accept from elsewhere and I can't for the life of me see where it is blocked (I have been running postfix on public servers for several years but this is not my machine)

root administration mail gets through no problem. phpadsnew is able to send mail

Where is this configured other than the administration interface?

OK I got this one

In the config it has localhost - my /etc/hosts has localhost.localdomain before localhost! Using either 127.0.0.1 or localhost.localdomain got the mail server connection working. Maybe thsi should be documented somewhere Raphael?
