Hi,

Please help me with my problem.

Problem:
I've deployed the Jforum using Mysql successfully on my local machine. But if i deployed the same intallation to the hosting server
1.) I can get on to the first installation page without any problem.
2.) I provided all the information on the first installation page
- database host, database name, database user ........
3.) Once i click on the "Next Step" button i get the page with following content.

<meta name="keywords" content=" Expression metaKeywords is undefined on line 6, column 34 in default/forum_base.htm. Looks like there are some security restrictions in your webserver, but it's hard to say exactly what, since the error message doesn't shows everything we need to know.

Make sure you give write access to the configuration directories

hi all,
i have the same problem and get the same exception. jforum is running on my windows machine, but not on the linux server.
now i have read in another forum that sun's 1.4.0 jdk has some critical problems with "FileChannelImpl" running on linux. lets call it a bug
i added some logs to the installAction class and found out, that the exception is caused by that line:
this.copyFile(path + "/mysql_41.sql", path + "/mysql_41-bkp.sql");
the new file "mysql_41-bkp.sql" has been created but with 0 bytes. so it seems that this is really a bug of suns jdk for linux.
i am now going to install manually and keep you informed 8)

well,
i habe installed manually without any problems so far. now i have the following problem. when click on login or userlist the first time, i got an exception (see above). when i click again, it works fine. everytime i open a new browser and call jforum, its the same. so i guess it depends on the threadLocal. the exception log told me that the module cache has not been init by the first click. any ideas? thanks

It's shame that i couldn't resolve this problem and had to use PHPBB because of time contraints, insuffient help from the forum and no access to log files in the GoDaddy hosting service.

But i think definitely there is compatibility problem with JForum on window and Linux. And i think it would be helpful to have an error page to show any problems or permission issues in case if the application server logs are not accessable.

I hope this issue will be resolved and i will be able to use the JForum for my next project.

JForum is still the best java based forum available :-)

Oh sure, it's a tiny ad, but under the right circumstances, it gets bigger.
