Yes, it is.
But.
Current 2.1.4 JForum has several bugs (like cannot stop anonymouse posts) and unimplemented features (like cannot upload images for viewing in the forum), and more importantly it's absolutely unclear when 2.1.5 will be available for production (CVS version is not what I need).
2.1.4 was announced a long ago.
I got feeling that Rafael missed control on the development, because many people work together, and coordination is not easy, or may be he tired, or anything else.
Even for fun, it's easy to buy a ready forum..
JForum is good, is good enough.

don't know how much a vbulletin license is (pray tell) but the jforum code is clear enough to fix the critical bugs if you're a developer -your first problem could be solved very easily with a kludge

The second one probably is not too difficult either (use jakarta FileUpload and sort out some storage?)

Anyway, your lucky - you can buy your solutions - I can't

Unfortunately I'm very busy and have no time to participate in development.

I'm afraid to use JForum in next web site. I need a forum which regularly updated and improved. That's how I can trust the software.

VBulletin Unlimited is $160/year or so, and + $30 each subsequent year. Not a big investment. I'm sorry about JForum, but it's not enough supported by the community developers.

CVS versio is stable for a couple of months. Even the feature you need - embed images in the message - is done for a while.

The sad part is that I don't want to release a new version without having the new website done.

But anyway, I second you, and if any other product fit your needs better, go ahead. As an open source project, for what I don't get any peny for regular development, it's hard to give concrete release dates.

It's a tiny ad. At least, that's what she said.
