An error has ocurred. For detailed stack trace, please see the page's source code.

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '17:03:14 GROUP BY topic_id' at line 1

Did I do something wrong on the install?

Thanks - software looks good - I plan to replace my old jive install if I can get this going on my FC4 box.

Which JForum version? 2.1.4? overwrite the file WEB-INF/config/database/mysql/mysql_41.sql over mysql.sql

Also, version 2.1.5 is done. This out: https://coderanch.com/t/575752

Kevin,

for the captcha thing, try passing -Djava.awt.headless=true to the VM when starting Tomcat.

I'm working to fix these pre-2.1.5 problems as soon as possible.

Well I tried that - I even re-extracted the install zip to my locl PC - renamed the mysql file as instructed and got the following.

Any further advice ?

Hi Rafael,

Well I decided to try 2.1.5. It has cleared the original error but now I'm coming up with lots more.

Do you want to have a look around my install. I have it on a FC4 box with tomcat 5.0.x and Mysql 4.1.x

The install ran OK - I am now looking for docs so I can update the index page with my logo and description and of course clear up these errors.

Regards

Kevin

In your tomcat startup.sh or catalina.sh you want to find the setting of JAVA_OPTS (or add it if it does not exist). Make sure that JAVA_OPTS includes the string "-Djava.awt.headless=true".

catalinha.sh you'll find in the directory <TOMCAT_HOME>/bin, where <TOMCAT_HOME> is where Tomcat is installed.

But, as I said for you in the private message, the captcha error you got was because some missing classes, probably due some error unpacking JForum - so, a new installation is recommended.

OK - I've completed a re-install - I left the mysql database as it was and that was overwritten - no problem.

When I now go to the admin control panel that displays ok whereas it didn't before.

Now the test e-mail says it has worked but I do not get anything in my inbox.

And when I try and register I am still getting:-

An error has occurred.

For detailed error information, please see the HTML source code, and contact the forum Administrator.

net.jforum.util.Captcha

That is after a new install - so some things have changed for the better - email has gone backwards.

I found the startup script in /USR/BIN on my FC4 box (dtomcat5) however if I change it TOMCAT will no longer start - I ended up re-installing TOMCAT via YUM

So in summary - all that does not work on my FC4 box so far now is - email and being able to register.

If you think something is missing can you tell me what and I'll check it.

Thanks - I love the look+feel of the software - I just hope I can get it working.

Kind regards

Kevin

If I restart Tomcat and login to JForums using Admin - then try and send a test msg - here is what catalina.out looks like - it would seem that mysql is causing the problems there - what do you think.
