Permissions Inherited by Child Group?

I am a new user of JForum v2.1.6, i have set it up on Tomcat 4.1 and am running through the functionality before integrating it with our app.

I have been working with the groups/permissions, i expected a permission set at a parent (top-level) group would trickle down but this does not appear to be the case. Is this by design?

This relationship is much more to get things organized. There is no inheritance of roles.

Any thoughts on a plan of attack if i were to want to modify so that the roles/permissions are inherited through the group hierarchy?

Sure. Take a look at net/jforum/view/admin/PermissionProcessHelper.java and net/jforum/security/*
