I've just installed Jforum 2.1.6 using mySQL 4.1. The installation went fine but I cannot logon. I can create a new user accound using the register option, but if I logoff the new account I cannot logon again. Apart from the invalid username/password error there is no sign of what has gone wrong. Can someone give me a clue where to look. Many thanks. Dave

For instance, check if your web.xml is not delegation - or trying to delegate - authentication to someone else (like some kind of REAL for example).

I'm sorry I don't understand your explanation. Could you give me some examples of what I should change.

Thanks

Everthing looks good.

That's hard to say why authentication is not working. Have you tried a reinstall, of with a different version of mysql? Have you run the sql dump file (mysql_data_dump.sql)?

I have reinstalled many times. Curiously when I register a new user account I can see it in the database using mysql, however I cannot get that user to logon again using the details I have just keyed in. I cannot use a different version of mysql as I am using a 3rd party hosting account.

Dave, you have access to the mysql console? if so, run the following query:

The md5 hash you can get using any tool that generates md5.

I've tested the checksum and it looks ok in the database.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

And you are viewing the JForum DB/tables with the same user that Jforum is connecting to the DB with? Just trying to make sure that the JForum user has all the permissions needed ...

Yes - I think so. I'm totally baffled and have run out of ideas now. Are there any java or mysql log files that I can ask my host provider to grant access for me to have a look at so I can debug.

Many thanks

I've removed and reinstalled once more without luck. Is there any chance that someone can help me if I provide the appropriate info to my website.

Much appreciated.

I've turned on debug mode and after restarting tomcat just created a new user, logged out and tried to logon again. This did not work as before, but perhaps the log output may help you help me !

Thanks :-

I think I'm going to have to give up on JForum, I've spent so much time on it and I've made no progress at all. I have to put much of the blame on my server provider webconexion who never seem to answer my calls or emails and don't seem interested in helping me determine where the problem is.

Regards

Dave

That's sad man. I really don't know by know why it is working for you.

I second your opinion that, if JForum is not working properly, you have to move on.

Let us know your final decision!
