Long URL's breaking tables in posts

I have a problem with long url's that are breaking the design when someone posts one. Our forum is set to 730 pixels wide and when someone posts a url that is long, it pushes the table out and breaks the whole design. I have seen scripts on other forums like phpBB that will make all url's over a certain lenghth only 20 characters long so it doesnt break the table design. Does anyone have a similar solution for JForum???

Im only a designer not a java developer, please help!

As a designer, how would you do it?

It is a problem of HTML itself, not JForum. If you have any suggestions of how to construct the HTML code for this, we can add the code to the main JForum distribution.

Keep the http://www.mysite.com/ part of the URI and keep the last 20 characters and then add back the characters in either truncated direction until the amount of characters hits, say 80, and then discard the middle and put ellipses to signify that the middle is not shown.
