What do you mean with invalid? missing items or something?
I've fixed the it_IT for 2.1.6 and posted in some topic, i'd be happy to allineate it to en_US 2.1.7 too. Just need to know if it's only a missing items problem.
Loadable language packs? good idea.

Here is the dump of problems with it_IT in 2.1.7. Please tell me if there is any questions regarding this report.

I'll try to write a documentation on how to create a translation for a new language, and how to maintain an old one.

A new strategy for translations will probably not be introduced in 2.1.7. This means that unsupported languages for this version most likely will be removed (If Rafael agrees ).

Hi,

I've checked tools/i18n/bin/tValidator.pl into cvs. This is a small perl script that reports the quality of a translation.

The sad news is that we only have 3 "valid" translations per now
(pt_PT, en_US, and nb_NO).

I suggest that we remove all the others for now. They can be reintroduced if someone fixes them.

But I think that we only should have en_US in JForum core, and then introduce language packs like phpBB.

It is impossible to synchronize all translations with each release.

What do you think?

/Jakob

Hi

I did go through the sv_SV language file and Brrrr. It's so full of misspellings and semantic errors that I strongly recommend that it is removed.

It doesn't reflect the rest of your extraordinary good work!

Keep it up

Ok, it's removed from 2.1.7 now. Briggs, please feel free to do a new translation I've just finished the norwegian one. Would you really like the this to be the only scandinavian translation for JForum? hihi :P

Well,

pt_BR is very well translated (I did it :P), but it does not have all terms translated. However, it should be included in the main build - and probably this applies to other translations as well.

So, the .pl file is interesting (would be more if it was written in java - can ben beanshell or anything like that).

I completely agree that a better documentation about translations is very necessary.

I have looked into translation tools. Hopefully I'll find someone good, so we can use that for v3. So I don't think I'll write a validator in Java until we have decided on how to this in the future.

Here is a list of the translations that are removed. People can post a message here if they have strong arguments why one of those should be reintroduced https://coderanch.com/t/576765 .
I think that the translations "shipped" with JForum must be 100% translations. All other will be released as language-packs.

The Norwegian language does a lousy job as the only Scandinavian language, agreed! (even though I'm 1/4 Norwegian)

Sure I'll help. Lot's of things going on right now. So I might have to wait until JF version 3 gets out

Great. I will focus on easier support for translations in 3. I'm thinking of something like separate language-packs, and translation tools.

Translating JForum should be something that is fun, and easy to maintain.
