when I put the file into webapps and point to the http://localhost:8080/jforum, it'll wait a long time and show that

net.jforum.exxeptions.databaseException:Error while trying to start the database:net.jforum.exceptions.DatabaseException:java.sql.SQLException:An attempt by a client to checkout a connection has timed out.

I think Tomcat and MySQL is OK.
and it's JForum 2.1.7
Any idea? Thank you very much.

More than likely, it's an issue with your database settings, probably your JDBC driver version or db account access rights. The long wait is probably due to a TCP connection attempt timing out.

Are you using MySQL 5.x? If so, you will definitively need to make sure you are using the current driver. 5.0 uses encrypted security unless it's configured to work with the older drivers.

if you are using linux, maybe you should set the permissions of the image, web-inf, and tmp directories.
