How reliable is the phpbb2jforum importer application?

I've just been trudging through error after error - making changes to my phpbb tables and data to 'force' it to work but each time I fix one problem I find another one. I notice that the date on some of the class files in phpbb2jforum are from 2004 and I've updated my phpbb forum a few times since then (currently on 2.0.19 which is by no means the latest version).

I've got another problem now to do with topic_vote field but I just don't want to waste much more time on this because I have no idea of how many more errors I will have to fix or if indeed I will ever get a working forum database in the end.

Has anyone used phpbb2jforum successfully in recent times and if so which phpbb version did you import from?

I really wanted to avoid getting the phpbb2jforum source and start friggen with that cos I've already got my own Java projects I have to work on.

Wish I could answer, but we can commiserate about it. Sometimes the responce time is realy long, if there is a response at all.

Yeah, the response time is making me wonder if going from phpbb -> jforum is a good idea after all.

I think it's more a case of 'no response at all' instead of 'really long response time'.

We've effectively pulled the plug on shifting to Jforum for this reason. Hopefully they're all just away at Java conferences somewhere staying in nice hotel rooms and they'll all return and provide support again one day but until then my forum will have to remain stuck in a PHP world.

Yep, traveling around the world. If you need to migrate from phpbb, it's better to hold on and not use phpbb2jforum, as it is for an older version of JForum

Hi,

Is it just the sql that is out of date or is there more? How much more? Please do not be afraid to give details. I can handle it.

If it is too far out of date, then what version did it last work with? Can I install that, import the old stuff and then upgrade via. normal means?

Thanks

It should work for all important tables. It does not handle the phpbb_vote_* tables (including topic_vote).

I believe it is not hard to fix the minor problems, as the code is quite simple and intuitive.
