I've just installed Jforum 2.17 on a Windows XP SP2 machine, running a Resin app server (also v2.1.9).

I kicked off the jforum installation wizard, but after I clicked the "Begin Installation" button I got an error:

"Please give write access for the user who is running the webserver to the file 'index.htm' and for the directory 'WEB-INF/config' and its subdirectories before continuing. "

All files in the Jforum installation are fully writable by the logged-in user (which is an administrator user). I have verified this by opening index.htm in a text editor and saving a change to it.

Could anyone suggest why I might be getting this error?

Edit: I've just found another post on this, which suggests using a .redirect file from the 2.1.6 version. I've done this, but now I get the error below when trying to configure the database. I'm using the built-in database, and have left all settings to default apart from supplying database user/pw and admin passwords:

com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Server connection failure during transaction. Due to underlying exception: 'java.net.SocketException: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect'.

Thanks - I had already found the other post, and edited my original post accordingly. I now have database/JDBC setup problems - which I started a different thread for.
