I'm doing a straight forward manual installation of jforum-2.1.7-b3 running on Tomcat 5.0.28 on Linux connecting to an Oracle database. I have the database and all the properties files in jforum setup properly but cannot get jforum to run, the following error messages are returned that make no sense to me:

Hmmm, apparently this jforum community forum craps out with the same error messages that I posted above from time to time too! Do any forum administrators know what causes this forum to error out?

Hi

I looked into the source code, because I had this problem, too.

The problem:
In the class 'SecurityCommon' in the method 'groupIdAsString' in line 206 is assumed that every user is at least in one group. Otherwise this bug (?) rise.
That was exactly what I did last, before everthing went wrong... I removed 'anonymous' from any group. (Now I know better :-) )

The fix:
ATTENTION: Following this instuctions can permanently destroy your forum. Only follow them, if you know what you do! Backup before!

I fixed it on DB level (raw SQL statements). I had no users, yet and so I deleted all datasets from the tables 'jforum_users', 'jforum_groups', 'jforum_user_groups' and imported the original data back again (see first four sections of 'mysql_data_dump.sql').
If you have a live forum with users, I think you have to figure out witch user do not belong in any group any more and restore this relation in the 'jorum_user_groups' table. But I did not try that. So, beware!

The conclusion:

Either this is a bug in the source code (see above) or the admin panel should not allow to remove a user from any group! This should be fixed.

Hope that helps.
